i dont know what a 'complete 4004 set' includes, but it looks like he has a lot of the chips from such a set in his pictures, so whoevers bidding may be getting a (nearly?) complete set, which is worth a lot more than one chip..

Hey guys,
The reason the auction is such a big deal is because of the grey C4003s which are worth almost as much as a grey C4004. A complete MCS-4 set is comprised of five chips (C4001, C4002-1, C4002-2, C4003, and a C4004).

Mats from the CPU-Zone has this laid out better than anyone on his site: http://www.cpu-zone.com/4004.htm Notice at the bottom of the link he has four sets laid out but only the white set with no groundstrap is complete. Notice also that he is missing the grey C4002-2 and grey C4003.

The grey C4002-2 is the rarest of all of these chips with only one known to exist. Same holds true with the white C4003 #5 with groundstrap.

I don't beleive that Intel made a complete MCS-4 set in the "D" version package as I have never seen a D4001 or a D4003 and that is why you don't see that laid out in Mats collection.

I only know of 4 people to have a complete MCS-4 set in any package type so this is truly the Holy Grail of collecting(at least for Intel).

Lee

I guess that link isn't working to Mats site. You can still see it if you go to his site and then click on his C4004 link. Or you can go to my site and see how I have it laid out: http://www.theintelcollection.com/MCS-4%20Set.htm

You added a dot at the end, this should work: http://www.cpu-zone.com/4004.htm

Now two bidders retracted their bids... I don't know what's going on now. They have a mutual agreement or something?

Yeah,
He was shill bidding... I have it from a good authority that he has already offered a second chance offer Rolling Eyes

He got greedy and now he will only get about half of what he could have gotten. Very Happy

So what was the clue that he was shill bidding? I looked at the winning bidder feedback vs seller feedback and am trying to see the relationship.
