Looks like not ES.
Any normal A64 can be set to lower multiplier down to x4.
And something is clearly bugged in detection software - different CPUIDs, families, etc.

You can read more about this part number at http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AMD-Athlon%2064%203700%2B%20-%20ADA3700AEP5AP.html

Genna, who will have done far more research than me, thinks it is a fake, possibly based on a mobile processor.

Well, considering the Powernow! it might be a fake but it's still an ES Smile

Faking the ES identified by software isn't that easy. And there are board that work with mobile correctly.

It's not a fake. Just a genuine commercial CPU with a BIOS unable to recognize it properly.

The trick here comes from the PSN (Processor String Name). On Intel CPUs, that value is hard-fused within the CPUID and it's a read-only parameter. On AMD K8, the CPU comes with a blank PSN and the BIOS set it at boot on a write-once register. So, you can basically put anything you want inside. If the BIOS doesn't detect the CPU, AMD BIOS Writer's Guide ask to set "AMD Engineering Sample".

I bought one of these. It does not POST in my motherboard, as it always halts with POST code C1, memory error. The seller insists that it was tested working.

The datamatrix does not match, whereas other contemporary socket 754 processors have datamatrices that match. Therefore, it seems likely that this is a fake.

The processor was returned for refund.

A few things I noticed about this chip:

AMD used bolder font for uppercase letters in the first line. The AMD logo should be bolder too. AMD copyright used slightly different font, where "D" letter was more narrow.

I just realized another glaring error:
The two 9's in the serial number have completely different font.
Shocked

It's not just the "9" and "5", it's all the last 6 digits on the last line that have a different font Smile
