Voting/rating chips?

Hi!

There is a vote feature for every photo in the gallery, that i have deliberately turned off for the time being because i wanted your input on how to use it.

The question is what to rate? What subject and values should the vote have?

1. Rarity?
1=Common 5=Rare

2. How many chips known?
1=Millions 5=Less than 10

3. Cool or uncool?
1=Uncool 5=Freezing

4.? Any other way?

The values can be changed, for example 1-10 instead.

in george phillips collectors guide is a definition for rarity and quality of chips.

maybe you should use this definition.

f.e. condition (i copied here just the first two and the last class because it's not my guide)

LN (Like New): A part that would have graded ChLN except for some minor detraction such as the part number or logo might not be as boldly printed, or the part number and logo might not be as well centered. No scratches or scuffs on cap or package. Pins should be bright and shiny without any scratches.

The part you have pasted only describes condition of a specific chip. (Perhaps there is a part with rarity also but i do not own the guide)

Im thinking around rate the chip or perhaps a certain print or package rarity. For example there where a thread http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3258 regarding a specific print and how rare it is. Perhaps a 3 on a 5 grade scale. But on the other side how does this AMD chip compare to a grey traces 4004?

For example chipcollectors military TQ80486DX4100 should be rated a 5 (rare) but a Pentium 100 a 1 (Common)

Maybe use votes as a counter to get a sense of relative rareness and desirability. i.e. collectors vote for a chip if they have the chip in their collection and also a seperate vote if they would like to have the chip for their collection. These two numbers would give you a sense of how many exist in collections, and also how many collectors want one (i.e a measure of supply and demand)

How about just a counter of known chips. It will not be subject to the emotional ties we all have to specific cpus.

For now the vote system is a value from 1-5 or whatever we choose. Higher number gives higher overall rating. There are a separate list also for number of votes.

The question is what to vote on...

1. How rare is this chip?

1=Totaly uncool 5=Freezing
