I have this little processor but I don't know much about it.

Is it a good item for collection or isn't it?

Thanks.

I was actually at the conference when Transmeta was announced.

Transmeta was the biggest news in the industry. The chip actually translates x86 machine codes on fly. That made Transmeta very flexiable in term of compatibility. Its low power consumption was targeting at the laptop and portable market. However, its poor performance and not-so-low power consumption made it less popular than predicted.

I remember it in the press in the mid to late 90's as well. Kinda disappeared.

It didn't disappear; just barely surviving. If you notice some super-slim laptops or tablet PCs, you will see it actually uses Transmeta; and you will not be suprised when you see the low performance,

Thanks - now I know what to enable in Zonealarm Smile

Geez, these firewalls might be great for security, but when they don't let you know everything that is being blocked they can be a pain in the butt!
