is this chip a engineering samples?

or is that just for Cpu's

Engineering sample is not just a cpu thing. Engineering samples are also made for other types of chips. As to whether this chip is or not I haven't a clue. Their do exist chips that have ES in the designation (such as my dec 310es that I thought mistakenly was an engineering sample.) ES is also sometimes used as a batch code or other internal identification such as intel does when es is written on the back of the processor.

Yeah, the other common one is CS on those LCC chips.

forme it is not an Engeneering sample ...

The only Engeneering sample I know from Signetic is printed ENGR
