Hello,

I'd like to upgrade a Core Duo T2300E laptop ( http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_Duo/Intel-Core%20Duo%20T2300E%20LE80539GF0282ME.html ).
Is it possible to swap this CPU with a Core 2 Duo T5800 ( http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Duo%20Mobile%20T5800%20LF80537GG041F.html )?
In this case, will the laptop use the Core 2 Duo features (new instructions, 64-bit architecture...)?

The chipset is a Mobile Intel Calistoga-GM i945GM, the laptop being a Sony SZ2M/B.

Thanks for help!
Jérôme

This one is a BGA processor. I think you meant micro-PGA T2300E which fits socket M.

T5800 requires different socket - socket P. If I remember correctly the fastest socket M CPU is T7600.

Yes, it should be a mPGA T2300E.

Thanks for pointing out this. But how to recognize the socket M processors and the socket P processors? Socket M = 667 MHz bus and Socket P = 800 MHz bus?

Thank you!

No, that'd be too easy. All mobile processors with 800 MHz and higher FSB are socket P. There are also socket P processors with 533 and 667 MHz FSB. You can use CPU chart to find just socket M processors:

http://www.cpu-world.com/cgi-bin/CPU_Chart.pl

Select "Socket M" in "Socket Type" field.
