Sad news about Nortel:
http://www.comcast.net/articles/finance/20090114/Canada.Nortel.Bankruptcy/

Some good news: I have several Nortel PGA chips for sale or trade. PM me if interested...

It doesn't look like they will be producing any more chips, so you may want to get these while they last. Surprised

I found and won this Nortel board with "mystery chips" on Ebay this week.
It will be my last purchase for awhile, but I took the risk of buying a board with the main chips hidden behind curious looking heatsinks:

Removing the heatsinks and paper tapes I was very happy Very Happy to find some "mystery chips", a large Texas Instruments "QMV595BY1, CF65674CGA", a Gold purple ceramic square with no numbers and a strange design, a Nortel EPROM "QMV351CY1, BB25H0005" with a large quartz window! and two Intel socketed squares "TN87C196KB16" AND "TN87C196KC20"!!
Can anyone ID any of these, please? Rolling Eyes Question

This board also has 3 purple ceramic Nortel chips.
With NORTEL now bankrupt, I'm going to try and find as many of their chips as I can, since they won't be making IC's anymore Sad
(I do have some NORTEL spares for trade.)

"TN87C196KB16" AND "TN87C196KC20" are both MCS-96 MCUs.

The windowed Nortel chip looks like an MCU, from the various sections in the core, but that is only a guess
