i currently hav a Celeron 333MHz (66MHz FSB):

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron/Intel-Celeron%20333%20-%20BX80524P333128%20(B80524P333%20128).html

n i wanna upgrade...
i'm looking at these 2:

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron/Intel-Celeron%20433%20-%20FV80524RX433128%20(FV524RX433%20128).html

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Celeron/Intel-Celeron%20566%20-%20BX80526F566128.html

but... on my motherboard (66MHz), the dip switch settings table only goes up to x6.5 (433MHz), but i kno ya can get up to x8.5 (566MHz), soo... can my motherboard only support up to the 433MHz processor or will it support the 566MHz processor anyway?

i downloaded the manual for my motherboard (gigabyte ga-6la7), and it says it supports processors up to 566MHz...

anyway, i asume it will support a 566MHz because the manufacturer's manual says it will support it... WHERE CAN I GET A CELERON 566MHz(66MHz FSB) AND HOW MUCH ?!?!?

Hi,
try to find the cpu on Ebay.
For the dip-switch don't worry because all cpu from intel have the multiplier hard-coded on the chip, so you don't need to change it.

DIP-switches are important as the multiplier should be set manually for older Celeron processors. To the original poster - when you say that "the dip switch settings table only goes up to x6.5 (433MHz)" do you mean that your manual doesn't show how to set multiplier higher than 8.5, or it shows it, but it doesn't work when you try to set it?

i meant that on the motherboard the dipswitch settings table went up to X6.5, and in the manual i downloaded for my motherboard from the makers of it, it says it supports Celeron processors up to 566MHz and the table went up to X8.5 in the manual...

i got a Celeron 566MHz(66MHz FSB) from my local computer store! but yeh, it's 2nd hand... i put it in and set the dipswitch to X8.5 (8.5 x 66 = 561 = 566MHz) but my BIOS detects it as a Pentium III 600MHz !? [any1 kno a dipswitch setting X9? for 9 x 66 = 594 = 600MHz (i tried setting system bus to 75MHz and dipswitch to X7.5, 7.5 x 75 = 562.5 = 566MHz and during Windows bootup it jus beeped at me, i tried dipswitch setting 8, 8 x 75 = 600MHz because that's wat the BIOS detected it as, and it jus beeped at me during Windows bootup aswell... i put system bus bak to 66MHz now]
i hav 2 HDD's wif a switch between which 1 is master, so i can boot up Windows 98SE or Windows XP Home (1 HDD has 98SE, the otha 1 has XP Home), when i boot up 98SE with this processor (the Celeron 566MHz that BIOS detects as Pentium 600MHz), it starts loading then freezes and stops responding at the same point each time before i can get into anything, i can use safe mode tho. when i try to boot up XP Home, i just get a blue screen (not an error message blue screen, jus a plain blue screen)...

i think i might need to update my BIOS, can sum1 plz help me find an update? i hav:

Gigabyte GA-6LA7 motherboard

AMIBIOS 1999 American Megatrends Inc., Released 09/30/99
Intel 440LX AGP BIOS for CELERON F1a
62-0430-000000-00101111-071595-440LX-1440LX00-H

how do i get pictures into a post from my computer?

i jus put the Celeron 333MHz bak in, BIOS still detects this 1 properly, and both Windows 98SE and Windows XP Home are running normal again...
with the Celeron 566MHz in, in safe mode on Windows 98SE, in the system properties, the Celeron 566MHz (which is identified as Pentium III 600MHz in BIOS) is called "x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3"
i'm jus tried safe mode on XP Home to see wat it called this processor, but it loads the safe mode files n i bout to launch the OS but dies...

this is the Celeron 566MHz: http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL3W7.html

this is the Celeron 333MHz: http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SL35R.html

Just ignore it. Your motherboard BIOS probably doesn't know how to correctly identify Pentium III class processors.

Here is a link to a page with BIOS files:

It's possible your motherboard doesn't support Coppermine Celerons. In this case you can try to install Celeron 533 in PPGA package, like this one:

I'm 16, I have my own ebay account and paypal account Cool

Just ask your parents to sign up for you, It's not recommended but you can buy without a paypal account (i.e BidPay, Money Orders, Western Union etc)
