Hi everyone!
I have a notebook Fujitsu AH512 with i3 2328m cpu. Today i have great performance with 8gb of RAM and Samsung SSD Pro Series.
Can i upgrade this cpu with an i7 2860qm?
I have a good heatsink..
Thank you! _________________ Pc1: P4 1.7Ghz; GA8TX; 1Gb RDRAM; GeForce256 @32Mb

| It's socketed so I don't see any issue in upgrading. |

| The 2328M is a 35 W chip, while the 2860QM is a 45 W chip. Many laptops will refuse to start higher TDP chips. YMMV, but chances are no. |

All sources I see show it's socketed |

Logically, it should drop in and work. However, a higher TDP may be a problem. I've run into several issues upgrading "cheapie" i3 laptops with i5 and i7s and the laptops would randomly shut off, even when not under a load and not even hot. Your results may vary. |

| Based on what I know, the highest performing CPU that might work would be an Intel Core i7-2640M SR03R. Still a hyperthreaded dual core, but it'll have an extra MB of L3 cache and an all-core boost of 3.3 GHz. (Single Core: 3.5 GHz.) You'll also get another 200 MHz of iGPU clock if that matters to you. |

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Your LifeBook AH512's heatsink assembly has only 1 thin heatpipe and a single heat vent. That is generally considered to be a horrible heatsink, even for laptop standards.

BGA Core i3-2328M processors do not exist to my knowledge, and the LifeBook AH512's motherboard has a socket on it. I'm sure this particular processor is socketed.

I doubt the high TDP itself will prevent the laptop from POSTing or even booting up.
I've tested a Core 2 Extreme X7900 in several old Socket P laptops (generally pre-installed with a T7300/T7500/T7700/T7800), which all work with it, but they simply throttle and hit 95~97 C in no time. I don't quite get why would it not start up, unless you're referring to the 1st generation Core i3/i5/i7 Socket G1 shenanigans. _________________ CPU-World: Errors & Updates - https://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26667

Tell that to my Socket G2 Toshiba laptop. It will not start with 45 W chips. Power light comes on, power light goes out. Any 35 W chip I've tried works. |

Seems like you unfortunately own one of the rare machines that exhibit this problem, may I ask which model exactly? I'm curious.
I own a Socket G2 Toshiba laptop* as well, and it accepts Sandy and Ivy Bridge processors rated at 45 W. Even quads work in it, despite the fact that it was never offered or sold with a quad-core.
Note: My Toshiba laptop is a dynabook Satellite B552, the Japanese variant of the Satellite Pro S850 that was only sold in the EU for a short period of time. |

| Mine's a Satellite C55-A5310. my CD tray is on the opposite side of the B552, so these definitely use different mainboards. |

Yep, and of the cheapie i3 laptops I've upgraded over the years, Toshiba and Acer always give me the most problems. |

According to a system report, the Satellite C55-A is capable of using a 45 W processor. However, this particular model appears to have an updated UEFI (20140422, v1.40) in comparison to the stock dual-core configurations in that website which are mostly running the older UEFI versions.
That makes me wonder, did you update the UEFI before you installed a 45 W processor of any kind into your Satellite C55-A?

Yes, cpu is socketed.
I haven't the cover down the notebook, and i have a maxi fan mounted. I think that is a good solution for overheating..
I've opted for 2640m, what do you think? |
