I was wondering if anyone had upgraded the motherboard/cpu in this computer? it is an old computer, and it's slow, but perfectly functioning. I've upgraded the ram to 8 gb, but the cpu is a Pentium 2 6100 dual core at @2ghz. I have a newer laptop, but I want to upgrade this one for my mother to use. It is just slow.

The motherboard can be assumed to be non-upgradeable, but according to HP's specs you should be able to upgrade the CPU to at best a Core i7-640M. Slightly lower SKU's may save you some money.

Thanks, I figured as much, sorta was hoping that someone found a replacement board that worked. I'm looking into the i7-620m now to see if that will make a difference. Really appreciate the response.

You can probably swap the CPU; a lot of those came with other processors in that family. Your CPU is an arrandale PGA988 chip. The cooling solution may be different for i5 or i7 chips but you could probably drop in an i3 with the same heatsink setup.
