Posted: Sun Jul 15, 2012 3:21 pm Post subject: Identifying an AMD K6-2 Chomper vs. Chomper Extended |
|
|
From the information provided on wiki, the AMD K6-2 Chomper was available in 233, 266, 300, 333, and 350 MHz speeds. The AMD K6-2 Chomper Extended was available in 266, 300, 333, 350, 366, 380, 400, 427.5, 450, 475, 500, 533, and 550 MHz speeds.
For 266, 300, 333, and 350 MHz CPUs, how can a Chomper vs. Chomper Extended be determined by physical examination?
It has been suggested that the Chomper versions do not remap the 2x to 6x. Has anyone confirmed this to be true? If so, I am looking for such a chip.
Any information provided would be most appreciated. |

| Much appreciated. Any idea if all the Chompers support 2x as 2x, or was it only for a certain frequency range which supported 2x as 2x? |

On my Biostar M5ALA motherboard, the documented 2x jumper setting results in:
2x multiplier if the AMD cpu has cpuid less than 58C (K5, Chomper);
6x multiplier if the AMD cpu has cpuid equal to or greater than 58C (Chomper CXT, Sharptooth).
I suppose that confirms it. |

My experience: 2x multiplier behavior is in
completely agreement with cpuid as Neon said. |

Most of the package 26050 have cpuid=580, but I have seen a few exceptions.
All of the cpuid=58C that I have seen use package 26351. |

| I have just confirmed by way of testing that the regular AMD Chomper does allow for 2x multipliers (instead of 6x). The CPUID=0580, and 26050 is printed on the package. Thanks to everyone. |
