| Is it true he is selling his collection because he has had enough with all the postal problems. Items get lost and some ebay sellers refuse to ship to Italy. |

but IMO no chance for a group buy and also no chance for him to sell them in one auction.
maybe if nobody will bid on this auction he will do an open auction in this forum |
Maybe Andamus or ISA-d could mention this option to him.
He could just follow the system that Debs used and he would have the best collector group on the planet all bidding with an expiration date for each category. |
he might get 10000euro if selling in this way i think _________________ My vintage CPU collection:www.cpumuseum.com

Difficult
but still possible to get the lot
by a auction like groupbuy
for example
1.a european member who could drive to meet the seller
is need to handle this groupbuy
because it is a big deal and a lot of work need to do
2-4 % commision is needed
2.a private (invite only ,esp be careful with the IP from italy) auction-like groubuy forum is created
3. everyone bid on the chips he want
that's say
among the 619 chips , 300 chips is bidded
and total bidding amount is 3000 euro
4.everyone paypal the groupbuy handler
(prepay to prevent somebody withdraw, use paypal because it could be reversed)
5.then groupbuy handler make an ebay offer to the seller
6A.if he accept the deal => go to 7
6B.if the seller refuse
a election is held on another private forum (invite only for member participated)
for how much the 2nd offer would be
such as 10% increment
everyone prepay the 10% extra
and another offer make
repeat till offer is accepted or we are exhausted
7. the handler get the chips directly from the seller
then everyone get the chips
8.and the extra chips (319 as example ) is listed on ebay for scrapper (maybe in 3 or 4 lot )
say we got 500 euro back . everyone got some money back according to the % he paid (after minus the comission) |

I think I have a good news for you all...
After thinking a bit, I decided to buy this collection. There was (a very very few) CPUs I (really really) wanted, and I think it would be nice that everybody here could enrich their collection with those very nice items.
This is how I see the things :
- I take the ones I want (around 15 or so.)
- I will list (with detail pictures) all the other here (BTW, a special section as for Debs would be nice I think)
- All members can make public offers during x (TBD) days with let's say, a 1 hour rule for instance, to avoid snipping
- At the end, if offers are decent (My purpose is not to make money with this, but not to loose too much either !), it goes to the higher bidder, otherwise it is relisted on ebay (auction or buy it know, depending upon item)
This would garantee :
- Members have priority to get the items
- And can get them at a lower price than ebay
Tell me if you find that fair. I'm opened to any ideas !
Thanks,

I think this is a great idea and appreciate you doing this! I would be very interested in participating.
I do think that this sale should be closed to members who join just for this sale, so anyone joining from this announcement forward should not be allowed to buy from this sale. In my opinion it is not fair to the many collectors here who contribute to the community on a regular basis.
This brings back up the idea of closing our little community to price hunting Ebayers. Maybe there could be a minimum amount of posts and time before you could view and participate in the Sale section. I have recently spoken with a few IC sellers on ebay recently (2 of them very large IC sellers) and 3 out of 4 of them said that they have no idea of the price of many of there chips so to find out they find the highest price paid for that chip on Cpu-World and then list the chip for that price on Ebay. In this situation we are our own worst enemies. I really think this is something to be considered. I think to benefit from the sales and pricing threads you should be a contributing member to our community!!! Just my opinion but I have been wanting to voice this for some time because I think we are paying too much for chips. Chip collecting is still small and we should have better influence on pricing. While I know the price of gold is nothing we can influence but the rest we can.
I think poll might be in order for not only locking down Gob's sale to current members but also locking down the Sale & Group Buy forums where prices are discussed. Of course the rules for Gob's sale are up to him and the admin but a Poll would be interesting either way.
I have started a Poll Here

I think its a great idea, Thanks Gob.
I was wondering what happened to the auction on ebay when i saw it ended, because it didnt look like anyone purchased it. I am flexible with the format , either an auction style like debs did or a post youre price and snatch it the fastest, altho i think the auction style is more fair, since most of us cant sit at our computers for a week straight to snag the ones we want. _________________ "The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once." I'm not a big fan of auctions either but in this situation it's probably the best and more fair way to handle this. _________________ The two most common elements on Earth are oxygen and stupidity. |

I like defined auction very much.
Each item must have "Starting bid" - "Buy it now"
for example:
for D4040 it will be:
D4040 10-30
Bidder can make offer from 10 to 29, or get it for 30 right away
imho it's not too difficult to write down two numerals right from item name. _________________ My Want List: http://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22729

The auction format for my sale was a special case, and I don't think it was intended to become something that might get repeated in most cases. My reasons for giving up my large collection were why Genna allowed me to auction my collection, in order to enable me to focus more on my relationship with God.
I am in two minds about what might be good here:
1) An auction format for a collection like this would ensure it stayed in this community. That would enable people who only want specific chips to try and get them, without too much excessive fighting for chips.
2) It could set a precedent and be seen as creating peer pressure on Genna, making it hard to avoid the same thing being demanded on many other occasions. Would this then ultimately be used to put pressure on Genna to allow open auctions for everyone? _________________ My graphics card database can be found at http://www.gpuzoo.com.
