I think:
1) PC Bus card slot.
2) Mini SATA Solid State Drive |

2) Full-size MiniPCI Express cards with a USB 2.0 interface, such as the Qualcomm Gobi 2000 modem. These are not PCI Express cards, they are actually USB 2.0 cards in a MiniPCI Express form factor.
The other side of your Vaio's motherboard has a half-size MiniPCI Express card slot with a PCI Express 2.0 interface. I believe that is where your Wi-Fi card is located. _________________ CPU-World: Errors & Updates - https://www.cpu-world.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26667

EDIT: dang, I took way too much time to type up my message and others beat me to it. Here's my two cents at least:
Looking up the model I managed to find a manual. It appears (1) is an ExpressCard slot. It also seems that the laptop had a SIM card option, so (2) could be for a mobile network module, or I've seen it be used for Bluetooth, but there is no antenna nearby for wireless signal. (2) could just be for an optional mSATA SSD cache in this case, as I've seen laptops from this era also come with those. _________________ My Collection Archive |

I checked, there is a slot for the SIM card.
Do I need to insert a SIM card into the slot and buy a modem in the miniPCI Express card slot with an antenna?
I also put a miniPCI Express ssd drive there and it didn't work.
I also set jumper 2 and 4 to the on position. Is there a description of these jumpers?
P.S. Where can I get the latest bios for my laptop?

| zbugz wrote: | | I also put a miniPCI Express ssd drive there and it didn't work. | MiniSATA/mSATA SSDs will not work in MiniPCI Express slots with a USB 2.0 interface. They will work only if the MiniPCI Express slot has a SATA interface wired in, which your Vaio does not have.

| There are three antenna outputs on this modem: main, GPS and aux. What is each antenna for? GPS is clear for what. |
